CONNOTATIONS AND ASSOCIATIONS OF NICKNAMES: CLARIFICATION AND STRATIFICATION OF TERMINOLOGY

Abstract

Any branch of knowledge requires a precise, unambiguous interpretation of the definition of the phenomenon under study. Only through terminological definition it is possible to clarify the object and subject of research. In modern linguistic theories, the content of the terms «association», «connotation» remains uncertain in relation to the lexical system of language in general and onomastic in particular. In the context of the relevance of the study of nicknames in the anthropocentric aspect, the definitions of these terms are proposed. The author investigates the essence of connotation and association and their role in the content of nicknames.
