JOURNALISM’S PROFESSIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PRIORITIES IN THE AGE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: EVIDENCE FROM A SURVEY OF EDITORIAL STAFF

Abstract
The article examines the perception and use of artificial intelligence technologies in journalism amid the accelerating digital transformation of the media sphere. Based on an online survey of regional newsroom staff, it analyzes the frequency and typical scenarios of AI use, as well as the challenges, motivations, and expectations of the professional community regarding AI adoption. The study shows that, alongside the growing availability of generative models capable of producing text, images, audio, and video, ethical, legal, and professional challenges are intensifying, directly affecting journalists’ qualification requirements. A strong demand is identified for practice-oriented educational programs that combine the development of digital literacy, critical thinking, and an understanding of professional norms. The findings refine the assessment of regional media’s readiness to implement AI tools and provide a basis for adjusting educational priorities.
