Abstract
The article examines universal competencies that are developed in the context of university training of future specialists, among which the most prominent are civic competencies. The article examines the «4C» competencies within the universal competencies’ framework, as well as the significance of the concept of «functional literacy». The author’s experience implementing civic-patriotic projects in educational work with students as a means of developing universal competencies is presented. The importance of cultivating patriotism as an integral quality of personality is determined through the study by students of examples of the courageous struggle of the Belarusian people for their independence, through the study of the cultural traditions of different peoples.
