COMMEMORATION OF THE HISTORY OF WESTERN BELARUS IN 1921–1939 IN THE CINEMA (USING THE EXAMPLE OF THE FEATURE FILM «RED LEAVES»)

Abstract

The article reflects an example of the commemoration practices of the party-state bodies and public efforts to actualize and popularize by means of cinema in the public memory of the population of the BSSR and the USSR the events of the history of the revolutionary movement in Western Belarus in 1921–1939 through a film presentation in the form of a feature film “Red Leaves” was the most high-profile, world–famous event of the Belarusian national liberation movement in the mid 1930-s the attempted murder of S. V. Prytytsky, a provocateur in the ranks of the Communist Party of Western Belarus (KPZB). Using various sources, the interest of the Soviet government in shaping the image of the KPZB as the vanguard of the national struggle against the Polish occupation authorities was revealed through the glorified act of a young self-made hero in the image of S. V. Prytytsky, the interest of KPZB veterans in shaping the party's cinematic image and their desire to influence the design of the final script of the film reflecting the results of their efforts in the created film, positive reviews and comments on the plot, content and artistic features of the film, including the opinion of S. V. Prytytsky himself.
