EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL FACTORS IN THE FORMATION OF GERMAN HISTORICAL POLICY IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 20TH CENTURY

Abstract
The aim of the article is to characterize external and internal factors that determined the formation of historical policy in Germany in the second half of the 20th century and to identify their role at different stages of this process. The external factors considered in the article include: denazification policy imposed on Germany, division of Germany into two states at the beginning of the Cold War and its subsequent unification in 1990, as well as development of the European integration. The internal factors include both those which hindered the formation of German historical policy (reintegration of former Nazis into the structures of state administration and the resulting policy of hushing up and forgetting the scale of Nazi crimes) and those which contributed to this process (changes in public consciousness under the influence of German intellectuals and the change of generations).
