ECOLOGICAL FEATURES AND DISTRIBUTION OF PSEUDORHIZINA SPHAEROSPORA IN BELOVEZHSKAYA PUSHCHA NATIONAL PARK
Main Article Content
Abstract
The ecology and distribution of the rare ascomycete Pseudorhizina sphaerospora (Peck) Harmaja were studied in the Belovezhskaya Pushcha NP during 2022–2025. Distribution patterns of the species under primeval forest conditions were established. The dependence of the species on stand composition and site moisture availability was determined. Features of phenology and demography of Pseudorhizina sphaerospora in the National Park were revealed. A comparative assessment of the Belovezhskaya population with similar ones in Europe was conducted. The conservation potential of Pseudorhizina sphaerospora was assessed; the Belovezhskaya population plays a key role in preserving the speciesʼ gene pool in the Eastern European region. Substrate plasticity of the species was revealed, with colonization of deciduous wood alongside coniferous. A narrow ecological affinity for floodplain and swamp forest complexes was established, which has not been previously described in detail. It is concluded that the limiting factor for the species is not so much the absence of anthropogenic influence, but rather a specific combination of a stable reserve of coarse woody debris under conditions of high humidity and low temperatures, which are preserved in lowland Europe only within deep primeval forests.
